Our main objective here at the National Coach Academy is to enable aspiring coaches to reach their full professional potential. One of the most effective ways to educate students about the world of coaching is by offering them a window into the world of real, practicing coaches and showing them all the different ways coaches make a difference in the lives of their clients.
We hope today’s interview adds another insightful glimpse into the dynamic world of coaching.

We joined forces in 2013 to write Selfscription® Mindset, a coaching journey and workbook which we have been using with our private clients for several years. NCA: What initially got you interested in this career path and what kind of degree or certifications did you need to complete, if any?
John and Jami: We had both experienced some significant life events which set us each on our own personal growth journeys. As a result of seeing how some of the simple tools that we picked up had changed our own lives, we saw opportunities to share those tools with others and change their lives as well.
We met one another while in a coaching certification program at NYU. We both completed that and went on to obtain our ACC from the International Coach Federation (ICF). We didn’t necessarily need to complete these programs, but wanted to feel like we had some kind of credentials to bolster our coaching toolboxes and set us apart from other coaches. Jami also expanded her training to become a Certified Divorce Coach in order to help people navigate the divorce process.
NCA: What is the most rewarding part of your career and on the flip side, what is the most challenging aspect of the work that you do?
John and Jami: Most rewarding is seeing people grow as a result of our work together. And how simply helping them to become more aware of their identities, thoughts and feelings can be the starting point for more happiness and inner peace, leading to a whole life transformation.
Most challenging is how many people say they want to change, but, when it comes down to it, they don’t really want to do the work. Happiness can be hard! Other big challenges include how isolated the job can be, as well as the financial ups and downs of being self-employed.
NCA: Finally, what advice would you give someone looking to get started in the career path that you chose?
John and Jami: Define your niche demographic as soon as possible by following your passion, and expect that it will probably take longer than you think to become profitable.
